Rainbow Warrior

The bruising continues to move and change, but not diminish. Now there is a lot more color on the outside of my arm, starting just below the actual break point. When this happened, even after I found out I had broken a bone, I really had no idea how badly I was injured. I'm sure that most of the pain is being caused by damage to every muscle, tendon, joint and ligament in the area. I'm still not convinced that the two pops I heard weren't my shoulder dislocating and relocating (is that the right terminology?).

I'd love to be able to enjoy some of those quieter pursuits that Val mentioned, but even reading is difficult as I can't use my left arm to hold a book, or to do anything else for that matter. Walking or even riding in a car for anything other than short distances is too jarring, and using the computer is an excruciatingly slow process. I hope you all appreciate my efforts, blogging about this helps me to not feel so isolated.

All I know is that pain is a harsh mistress and I'm not handling this very well.

This helps...but I won't be able to find it much longer.

  1. Yeowzers! What an injury you've got, and I feel for you!

My husband broke his shoulder several months ago, and the bruising took over a month to go away. It is definitely an injury with a long recovery period.

I do appreciate your posts, and though sad for the reasons, I'm selfishly glad to see your updates. Sending you my thoughts for healing and hope your job leads turn out well, too.

  2. Glad to see you're still managing to post on your blog. Hopefully after a short time when the major inflammation goes away, the pain should subside some. In the meantime, sending prayers for your speedy recovery process.
    Take it easy on yourself.

  3. That is some bruise. I have broken my leg twice - once the ankle on left foot and then right knee so I know, or at least can probably guess a little bit, what it must be like although arm vs. leg - I think arm's worse because of the reduced functionality.

I am glad blogging is keeping you engaged.

  4. I'm so sorry. The bruising is certainly there to remind you, if the pain doesn't do the trick.
I cut my right hand so badly once that I had to have surgery. Nothing is easy one handed, nothing. Not even eating wonderful ice cream.

  5. oooowwwwwwccchh! yikes! I have all new respect for your ability to blog and comment. I hope you have some good painkillers (outside of the medicinal ice cream!).

    Here's to a speedy recovery.

  6. Oh Donna I'm so sorry about your injury it looks awful. I am a back injury survivor and in the month I had to be out of work the anxiety and feeling of helplesness became a worse problem than the physical pain. Take care. I'm ashamed to admit I took up smoking again to deal with the anger and boredom. Does your public library have an online audiobooks service? If you have a smartphone maybe there is a decent ebook reader that could make reading less painful. Project gutenburg ebooks are free and it's a good chance to read some classics. I recommend Far From The Madding Crowd. Anyway, thinking of you and hoping for good things.

  7. Sorry to hear that you're hurt, Donna.

But that ice cream looks absolutely sinful and right up my alley! I had no idea they made such a thing.

  8. Damn! Sorry I'm late to the party...
But mucho mucho sympathy for your nasty shoulder injury - I know you don't want to hear this, but keep up w/the PT as soon as it is rec; otherwise you'll end up w/reduced range-of-motion like Mr B gave ME when he dropped me on my L shoulder & ribcage last summer. Ouch
At least it's your non-dominant arm!

  9. OUCH ! Sorry to be late getting the news. That is an amazing bruise. I am so sorry to hear about your injury and hope you are doing a little better. I think you will be not only the most qualified job candidate but the most memorable. Good luck. Hang in there and yes, ice cream always helps.

    Take care-
    Tracey
