Good News Post - Animals

The finger is doing much better, although it is stiff and a bit swollen every morning when I wake up (especially if I've ridden the day before) and if you look at it from the side you can see that I can't straighten out the tip completely anymore. It will probably be like this from now on, as any injury after 40 -- humph-- won't heal quite right.

Miss now has staples in the cut in her nose, the stitches in the middle of the cut came loose and she had a pretty big bump there, but it isn't infected and isn't affecting either her appetite (that girl does love her food!) or her performance in the ring. I'm now walking and trotting on my own after a couple of lessons on the lunge line and I am just thrilled with her progress. She will stand at the cross ties for tacking up and at the mounting block like a champ. Willow tells me we are now beyond the point where she was trained before -- 3 years ago -- and she is relishing having a job. She's still a bit of a spaz at the canter, especially to the left, but once she settles in she drops her head. I took my first lesson on June 5th last year...so much has happened in a year! Willow says I was on the accelerated plan.

Ruby is growing like a weed and is becoming quite friendly, which makes it harder to take her picture since she runs right up to me every time she sees me! Here's a shot I took of her imitating her mama Roxie. Missy's big sister Sara is due within the next two weeks. She's huge! Poor thing. This is going to be a very big baby.

After a bit of a health scare in which Tucker lost a lot of weight, his thyroid meds were adjusted down and he is now out of the danger zone. We went to the dog park yesterday. How we all love this place! It's the only off-leash park in our county that is actually a park, as opposed to a cyclone-fenced parking lot with redwood chips and a hose.

More good news to come.

  1. Sounds like (generally) good news all around! So glad things are going better with Miss, and I hope both critters continue healing and return to normal very soon.

  5. That photo of Tucker is fabulous!! He looks like he is showing off because he knows just how damn pretty he is.

I found that keeping my finger moving really helped take down the swelling and loosened up the joint, although it is still way out of alignment. But hey, it is usable and that's the main thing.

  6. Sally, the blond Adonis is actually Bailey, Tucker is the red firecracker in the weeds going a million miles an hour.

As long as I can type and ride, I'll take my finger as it is.

  7. Glad to read that everything is going so well, and loved the animal photos. I remember the first time my mare Lily had an injury when she was about five: a three point tear on her legs. I called the vet out to stitch it up and it still scared, and I was quite miffed. I can still find it, though probably no one else could.

  10. It's good to hear that all your animals are doing well. I'm going to have to do some research about dog parks in my neighbourhood, little Buddy loves to play with other dogs.

  12. Love the photo with mama and baby horse! I have two cats that are identical in color (by shear accident of the stork since we adopted them a year apart). Anyway, one is bigger than the other, and they always look so cute when they happen to be doing the exact same move at the same time (like getting ready to pounce on a prairie dog that is outside the window, fat chance!)
